How to Manually Set Local Latency Compensation?

Modified on Fri, 5 Sep at 12:29 PM

The local latency compensation feature allows you to align the timing of your audio input with doozzoo’s metronome or audio player. This ensures your performance stays in sync, even when latency is introduced by your device or audio hardware.

Important: On the iPad, local latency compensation can only be adjusted manually.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Start Your Session

    • Begin a doozzoo session and let your student join.

  2. Switch Play Direction

    • Change the play direction to Student so you can monitor their timing.

  3. Open the Latency App

    • Both you and your student should open the Local Latency Compensation App.

  4. Set Up the Metronome

    • Open the metronome.

    • Choose a tempo around 60 bpm (or another suitable tempo).

  5. Perform the Test

    • Start the metronome and ask your student to clap along with the click.

    • Listen carefully:

      • If the claps come after the click → increase the latency value.

      • If the claps come before the click → decrease the latency value.

  6. Save the Value

    • The system saves the latency value automatically once it is set.

Practical Examples

These are guidelines only—actual values may differ depending on device and setup:

  • MacBook with internal sound card: ~58 ms

  • iPad with AirPods: ~220 ms

Tips for Best Results

  • Better use headphones to avoid echoes and feedback.

  • Ensure the metronome sound is clearly audible to the student.

  • Recheck latency settings if your student switches devices or audio hardware.

✨ With manual latency compensation, you and your students can stay in perfect sync, making practice and lessons smooth and frustration-free.
