How to use the Play Direction switch?

Modified on Wed, 26 Oct, 2022 at 9:49 AM

Coach and student should use headphones in order to get the best result.

1. Connect your headphones. Make sure these headphones show up as your output device in the preferences of your computer system.

2. Tick "headphone mode"- within doozzoo´s "pre session check".

3. Run "latency compensation" (in doozzoo´s "pre session check")

Explanatory note:

You only need to run the "latency compensation" once - the results will be stored in your browser. However, when you use a different soundcart or change the audio-mode, please run latency compensation again to adapt to your new system. As we´re using our "local latency compensation" in doozzoo, both systems (coach and student) should run the "local latency compensation" - test.

Using the "play direction switch":

1. The coach performs to doozzoo´s metronome or audio player:

-open metronome app or audio player (opens from within your media library)

-switch "play direction" to: "You: Play -> Student: Listen"

-now start the metronome or audio player and perform.

-the metronome/player and your performance is synced up for you and your student.

2. The student performs to doozzoo´s metronome or audio player:

-open the metronome or audio-player and turn on "remote" on metronome or hit the "lying 8" symbol on audio player which simultaneously opens the file on your students device.

-switch "play direction" to: "You: LISTEN<- Student: PLAY"

-As you have turned on the "remote"-functonality on the devices you can remotely control the functions of these apps on the students side like play, stop, change tempo etc.

Start the metronome or audio player and have your student perform.

-the metronome/player and your students performance is synced up for you and your student.

IN SHORT:     whenever you play to the metronome/player switch to "You: PLAY-> Student: LISTEN"

whenever your student plays to the metronome/player switch to "You:LISTEN <- Student:PLAY"

Make it a habit to check the momentary setting in the "play direction"-switch right before any performance.

Pro tip: You can experiment with the delay time the system uses to compensate latency by manually in- or decrease the value. You find + and - buttons in doozzoo´s mixer (in the apps menu). By default we set the value to an average of 0,1 s
