Virtual Piano in doozzoo

Modified on Thu, 28 Aug at 1:44 PM

Opening the Piano

You can find the virtual piano via the piano icon in the sidebar.

  • If you, as the Coach, open the piano, it will automatically appear for all students in the session.

  • Students can also open the piano themselves. As a Coach, you can allow or deny access to the button in the footer – just like with the apps. For details, see: How can I enable or disable apps for individual students?

Ways to Play

The virtual piano can be played in several ways:

  • Mouse or Touch: Click or tap the desired keys.

  • Computer Keys: Use your computer keyboard to play notes.

  • External E-Piano/Keyboard: The best option is to use your own e-piano or keyboard. Connect it via USB/MIDIto your computer (only available with Google Chrome). The browser will ask for permission to use MIDI – confirm this. Afterwards, each keystroke will be displayed in color on the doozzoo piano.

Your piano playing is transmitted live to all participants in the session – both audible and visible.

⚠️ Important note: MIDI integration with external keyboards only works with Google Chrome. On iPad and iPhone, this feature is available only via the doozzoo App.

Overview of Options

1. Display and Sound Settings

  • Keys: Set how many keys are displayed (88, 73, 61, 49, 25, 13) or choose Auto. With Auto, the number of keys adjusts to the window size.

  • Note names: Choose how note names are displayed:

    • All: All keys are labeled with their note names.

    • Basic: Only the C keys are marked to indicate the octaves.

    • None: No labels are shown.

    • Additionally, you can choose DO RE MI for solmization.

  • Sound: Switch between Mono and Stereo.

  • Computer Keys: Enable or disable keyboard input. You can also select your keyboard layout (QWERTZ, QWERTY, AZERTY).

? Note: These settings are controlled by the Coach and apply to all participants in the session.

2. Pedal

When the right sustain pedal is pressed (by you or your counterpart), the Pedal field lights up.

3. Hide keys

With Hide keys, you can hide which notes you are playing. This is useful, for example, for ear training exercises where students should recognize the notes without visual help.

4. Mute

Toggle the sound on or off with Mute. The pressed keys are still visualized, but the piano remains silent – neither you nor the participants will hear it.
